The apostolic community<\/h3>\n

A warm greeting of missionary life to all of you!<\/span><\/p>\n

My name is Cecilio Alberto Eseverri Laspalas and at this <\/span>time<\/span> I am Vicar General of the Congregation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I would like to structure this presentation in three points:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Introduction<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Article 1: The Community itself, (Const. 21 and 22)<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Article 2: The presence of Christ in the Community (Const. 23, 24, 25)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    INTRODUCTION<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    First and foremost, I would like to thank you for presenting our Constitutions in an open and public way, since, more than being \u201cthe best secret kept\u201d by all redemptorist consecrated, they are also a spiritual jewel for <\/span>everyone<\/span>, for <\/span>the<\/span> Consecrated Life and for the Church.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Today, we start with Chapter II of our Constitutions: <\/span>THE APOSTOLIC COMMUNITY<\/b>.\u00a0 It is <\/span>a true community<\/span>; but in these constitutions, which we are referring today to, article 2 (\u201cthe presence of Christ in the Community\u201d) should be the main and central aspect of our mission and community life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    First of all, let me underline 2 essential aspects of the redemptorist identity:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. The Apostolic Life <\/b>of redemptorists. Constitution 1, <\/span>in<\/span> its last paragraph, says: \u201cthe apostolic life, which comprises at one and the same time a life specially dedicated to God and a life of missionary work\u201d <\/span>not<\/span> just one of them, but both.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Article 3 of Chapter III says: \u201c<\/span>The mission <\/b>is<\/b> unifying their whole life<\/b>\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      And regarding to our today\u2019s subject:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. The Apostolic Community for redemptorists is the basis of <\/span>our<\/span> mission and not the other way around.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. The Apostolic Community is an evangelizer itself.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

         <\/p>\n

        Art. 1: The community itself, <\/b>(Const. 21-22):<\/span><\/p>\n

          \n
        • Const. 21: Mission and life in community: \u201cto fulfil their mission in the Church, redemptorists perform their missionary work as a community\u201d. Therefore, \u201can essential law of life for the redemptorist is that they live in community and carry out their apostolic work through community\u201d. Mission and life should be decided and performed in community.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        • The third paragraph was <\/span>requested<\/span> by the Congregation for Religious.\u00a0 <\/span>It<\/span> points out the spiritual and juridical aspects of the community: \u201cCommunity does not truly exist when members merely live together; it requires <\/span>also a<\/span> genuine sharing on the human and spiritual level\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Const. 22: Community is <\/span>to serve<\/span> the<\/span> mission.\u00a0 <\/span>It <\/span>has its beginnings <\/span>in<\/span> the first Christian communities (Act 2, 42-45): \u201c<\/span>Concrete forms of this community life are to be set up <\/b>to<\/b> meet the demands of evangelization<\/b>\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Life and mission in a local community is the norm, but it is also accepted in special cases, and under particular circumstances, <\/span>temporarily<\/span>, with the consent of the Superior and its Council.\u00a0 <\/span>This<\/span> would be<\/span> a \u201c<\/span>personal community<\/b>\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          This does not justify an individualist mission, neither <\/span>does<\/span> the attitude of those who <\/span>are<\/span> physically<\/span> living in a community <\/span>and<\/span> do not participate in the mission and life of the community.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

            \n
          • From the inception of the Congregation, St. Alphonsus understood community in the service of mission: the location of the houses, the chapel near the entrance to the house, and so on.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

             <\/p>\n

            Art. 2: The presence of Christ in the Community<\/b> (Const. 23, 24, 25):<\/span><\/p>\n

            These constitutions are the heart of this chapter.\u00a0 They are based on the salvific mystery of the Most Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).\u00a0 Therefore, <\/span>in<\/span> our apostolic community and in each confrere, <\/span>if<\/span> Jesus Christ is not the centre of our mission and life, who or what is going to take that place?<\/span><\/p>\n

              \n
            • Const. 23: <\/span>Christ as the center of our life<\/b>: so that mission and life of the community is based on the very same life of Christ.\u00a0 Communion with Christ and Mission with Christ are the same reality.<\/span><\/li>\n
            • Const. 24: <\/span>The spirit of contemplation<\/b> is necessary to go deeper into the feelings and mystery of Christ and the Father. That way, the second paragraph remarks discernment as <\/span>an<\/span> indispensable <\/span>way<\/span> to discover in life those \u201c<\/span>Kairos\u201d <\/span><\/i>of the Redeemer. <\/span>Through this, it<\/span> looks as if everything is orientated towards the Father.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
            • Const. 25: <\/span>The presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit <\/b>is essential in redemptorists\u2019 life and mission. The Holy Spirit is <\/span>constantly<\/span> acting in us in order to conform <\/span>us<\/span> with Christ.\u00a0 Being conformed to Jesus we can have<\/span> His own same feelings and share His same way of thinking.\u00a0 He drives us inwardly to the apostolic acting, according to our charismas, so that we can look <\/span>at<\/span> everything and everyone through God\u2019s eyes.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
